Lukla Airport known as Tenzing-Hillary Airport, is situated in Khumbu, Solukhumbu district, Sagarmatha zone, eastern Nepal.The airport is popular because Lukla is the place where most people start the climb to Mount Everest Base Camp.High winds, cloud cover and changing visibility often mean flights can be delayed or the airport closed completely. The airport is contained within a chain link fence and patrolled by the Nepali armed police or civil police around the clock.
The Airport is the gateway to Mount Everest.From here,People start their journey to kiss the 8848 metres (29,029 ft) high Himalaya,above sea level and the 5th tallest mountain measured from the centre of the Earth.
